PWHAT
TENTATIVE TRAIL RIDE SCHEDULE FOR 2008 |
|
IT’S TIME TO
RIDE |
I don’t know
about you, but I have had enough winter
weather, flu, and cabin fever. I am ready to
start trail riding. The 2008 trail ride
schedule is complete and looks to be a good
year for enjoying riding, fellowship, and
just having fun. The schedule has some
changes, but retains much from last year.
Ann Neville had done such a great job with
the trail rides over the years that is
impossible to change much, but make the new
rides match the calendar. Milessa and I are
open to information regarding new locations
for new rides.
The leadership for PWHAT is very receptive
to ways to make trail riding a vital
activity of the organization. But as in any
organization everything requires “danged
old” meetings and decisions. In one of the
meetings there was a lengthy discussion
regarding the number of new people getting
into trail riding and how PWHAT might help.
The discussion continued to how PWHAT might
reach these folk helping them to find fellow
trail riders, new trail rides and PWHAT. I
know when I started trail riding in the
middle TN area I had to find folk to help
me, find places to ride and friends to ride
with. I was lucky I found a friend that had
ridden all over the area and new everybody
on the rides. PWHAT trail rides are great
for the person with only weekends to ride,
want different places to ride, and meet new
friends. We provide a list of scheduled
rides so they can load up, show up, and
ride.
We are looking for ways to bring more
attention to PWHAT trail riding through the
rides and awards at the annual Awards
Banquet. We are now working on details to
continue a high point award for the
individual that logs the greatest number of
hours on schedule rides. This activity
created a lot of interest and competition
last year, so we expect it to draw even more
interest this year.
The following information is provided as an
introduction for the trail ride co chairs:
Milessa Pendleton: Milessa, as most of you
know, has held many positions in the PWHAT
including President, so she has a broad
knowledge of all of the activities and how
they must interface. She has been involved
in NWHA from its formation. Her interest was
in the show aspect for many years. Now, like
most of us, she has found the joy of trail
riding and wants to help others find that
joy through PWHAT.
Tom Hall: I am best known in PWHAT and other
horse organizations as Adam’s Dad. I grew up
in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and
Tennessee riding gaited horses. I have
ridden fox trotters, racking, single-footing
and everything in between. My first
registered walking horse didn’t come until I
moved to middle Tennessee. Now I want every
horse I ride to walk.
Annette, Adam and I moved to Murfreesboro in
1984. I had accepted the position of Vice
Chancellor for the Tennessee Technology
Centers for the Board of Regents. I have
been trail riding in Middle Tennessee for
seventeen years and realize how blessed we
are with the wonderful places to ride and a
great horse. In fact after retiring, trail
riding and working with new horses is about
all I do other than “honey dos”. Thinking
back on the ones that helped me find riding
friends and riding locations when I moved to
middle Tennessee, I want to return this help
through PWHAT. |
